Dr. Mallard is a Board Recognized Specialist in Fluency Disorders. He holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology and is a Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. He currently is in private practice, specializing in stuttering therapy through family intervention.
He has extensive experience with multiple approaches to therapy. He was certified to administer Precision Fluency Shaping from the Hollins Communication Research Institute. He treated more than 150 clients with this approach.
He participated in two training programs from the Michael Palin Centre for Stammering Children in London, England to learn procedures for family management of stuttering using a problem solving approach. This program was initiated at Texas State University and became nationally recognized as a training institution for family management of stuttering in children. Speech-language pathologists from across the country came to Texas State to learn this approach and develop similar programs at their work settings.
Dr. Mallard was taught to manage his own stuttering through procedures developed by the late Dr. Charles Van Riper. Learning to overcome stuttering by reducing fear and avoidance provided the foundation on which he bases his current clinical procedures.
